subcortical in between cortex and brainstem
all sensory goes through it to the brain
L for light
only place where all sensory comes together
after resolve, severe pain
Hypo: smaller or below
sympathetic starts in hypothalamus, goes down spinal cord
anterior: dilates to cool; unable to dilate = unable to cool
supraoptic: ADH; paraventricular: oxytocin
PGE2 leads to increased set point
thalamus not part of limbic system
cannot make new memories
very confused
korsakoff: more chronic
